A Recommendation: From One Gentleman Aficionado, To Another
Today, I visited a local high-end Wine, Liquor and Cigar shop. I asked a very knowledgeable saleswoman for an excellent celebratory cigar and whiskey pairing. The Saleswoman was extremely well-versed and knowledgeable about her spirits. The first hint of this was when she immediately recommended an Irish whiskey over a Scotch or brandy. It seems so often, people recommend Scotch or Cognac as a perfect spirit to accompany a fine cigar. So, I was pleasantly delighted when she walked to a shelf, with an exotic array of spirits, and retrieved a bottle of Irish Whiskey. The cigar in need of a pairing was a Padron 1926 Maduro. This cigar comes highly recommended by the likes of Cigar Insider, Cigar Aficionado as well as many online reviewers. It is a cigar I know to be particularly well made and fine. It is a full bodied cigar with full complex flavors that could please even the most astute of Aficionados . It is because of this, the cigar needed to be perfectly matched. The Whiskey that fit the bill was an Irish whiskey by the name of Redbreast. The Salesperson knew that the 12 year, though a excellent selection, would be too delicate for the Padron and as such the 15 was chosen. A healthy sample at the bar proved it to be the proper choice. So, from one aficionado to another. If you are looking to treat yourself to a little old fashioned therapy. A Padron 1926 Maduro and a Glass or three of Red Breast whiskey fits the bill.
PS. Some ladies know their whiskey.
