A look at classic Rolex boxes.

It seems, while Rolex has maintained their undisputed excellence in product quality as well as ingenuity. One aspect of their presentation has faltered. The modern Rolex presentation box set. While the current line of presentation boxes are seen by some as being more straight forward and refined, sporting the company's signature green color. I believe the design has lost a bit of the flare it once possessed. The design of the classic boxes is and was, in my opinions, a nice bonus to the purchase of one of the finest timepieces in the world. Below is a photo of the modern box-type. Please note that the box's size varies depending on which model Rolex a customer purchases. One is left to assume the size increase of the box must correlate to the price. The modern Cosmograph (nicknamed Daytona) is slightly larger than the Submariner box pictured below. The largest size box accompanies the companies flagship models which include the Masterpiece, Day-Date (nicknamed President) and all 18k gold variants.

Now, let us step back in time. The Rolex president box below dates to around the mid 1970's and remained in the product line until the mid 80's. This box is made from fine leather and host a beautiful suede interior. The Rolex coronet buckle is striking.

The blue ladies masterpiece jewelry box (still accompanied by the outer box) has a "R" serial prefix making the production date around 1987-88. The ladies masterpiece/president box below is phenomenal, aside from holding the timepiece. the box also serves as a full scale jewelry box. It host multiple compartments, by way of extractable trays. The box can be locked with Rolex coronet key, of course. Please note I have also seen a gents version in black. These boxes have become quite desirable and as such command a premium. I have seen some sell as high as $700.
